The iconography of this painting certainly has allegorical meanings and can be defined, in some ways, as symbolist precisely because of its allusion to underlying meanings. It is a type of subject that can be traced back to the artistic language of late nineteenth-century painters such as Moreau, Bocklin, and Puvis des Chavannes, who, while using a primarily figurative language, developed intellectually complex iconographies, full of symbolic and allegorical references. Davide Cristofaro's pictorial research has often focused on the feminine universe, exploring all aspects of it, even the most intimate and hidden. In this work, for example, through highly allusive iconography, the artist highlights the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child.

The painter Davide Cristofaro works with a fundamentally figurative language, although one cannot truly speak of a naturalistic rendering. The subjects appear with a heightened objectivity, and although their modeling is soft and their volumes smooth, the figures stand out clearly in space without overly accentuated pictorial effects. This serves, somewhat like the hyperrealism of the Surrealists, to heighten the allusive and highly symbolic charge that hovers over the scene. The composition is also studied in this direction, completely decontextualizing the scene to give it a universal significance. Thus, the artist's vision cuts across the female figure, focusing his gaze on the womb where life is born. And it is precisely from here that a light emanates, softly reflecting on the dominant red of the work's surface.

Davide Cristofaro (born in Putignano on August 16, 1985) is a painter, a women's haute couture designer, and a theater costume designer. His artistic training began at a tourism institute, where he first encountered fashion. He graduated in Fashion Design from the Victoria Academy Moda Designer Institute. His studies, combined with his creativity and passion, have allowed him to hone his aesthetic sensibility not only in the fashion industry, but in all things art. He made his debut in 2012 at "Lecce Fashion Weekend 8." He has participated in various events (Paris, London, Oslo, Koping, Stockholm, Bangkok, Moscow, Tashkent, Milan, Busto Garolfo, Florence, Rome, Naples, Aversa, Caserta, Roccamonfina, Ischia, Francavilla al Mare, Messina, Torchiarolo, Lecce, Ostuni, Taranto, Statte, Talsano, Latiano, San Marzano, Martina Franca), receiving warm critical and public acclaim.
