Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the representation of an aspect of daily life that, apparently, has no significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones. The 19th century also saw the beginning of an interest in the lives of peoples and cultures other than Western art. Exoticism developed especially during the Post-Impressionist period and was a fundamental component in the birth of the historical avant-garde.
In this work, the painter Daza demonstrates remarkable technical skill. He uses the transparency and light washes of watercolor to create a highly lyrical image of the scene. At the same time, however, his touch is incisive, practically structural, in determining the volume of the subjects in a complex space.
The painter Daza is gifted with an excellent technique through which he combines a taste for ethnic and exotic genre scenes with a complex formal quality.
