The work has a marked expressionist vocation, which tends to emphasize the expression of emotions. Expressionist art seeks to proclaim its moods to the world and flaunt them with passion. Formally, this translates into a summary rendering of the figures, through a very nervous and animated line, as well as the use of a violent color palette. These characteristics are found in the historical avant-garde movements of expressionism: Fauvism and the Die Brucke movement in Germany.

The work displays such a high level of synthesis that it almost seems primitive, a rock carving. Everything is reduced to the bare minimum, even in terms of color, playing on a pared-down chromaticism with spiritual meanings. The composition is completely linear, created exclusively by the dense, textured brush stroke, which, with its sinuous motion, defines the forms. The volumes are hinted at by the thick black line. The strong abstraction of the language harks back to an archaic, tribal expressionism, sought after by the artist.
