Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on a pop aesthetic in its use of stereotypical images and their mechanical reproduction. Pop Art was born in the United States in the second half of the 20th century as an interest/critique by artists of the contemporary "consumer society." All expressions of Pop Art presuppose a sort of double bond with the world of consumerism and the mass media. On the one hand, the artwork is reduced to a mere consumer product, thanks to the use of advertising language in the works and their serial reproduction through mechanical processes. On the other, it is the advertising images and consumer goods themselves that become works of art, as the most genuine and truthful expression of the new society.
As we can see from an analysis of this work, De Luca's style is a perfect fusion of Abstraction and Pop Art. Indeed, the composition follows a synthetic schematism, defining geometric spaces with a certain minimalist flair. This space, however, contains iconic images, created with an aggressive style reminiscent of mass media. Regarding technique, the artist uses patchy layers of compact chromatic areas reminiscent of advertising. Even the choice of a palette of electric colors fits within the overall Pop aesthetic of the work.
Artist De Luca is the protagonist of an original body of work inspired by Pop Art, featuring a distinct penchant for geometric abstraction. His works, employing a language inspired by the aggressiveness of mass media, reveal a certain intent of social commentary and a focus on political issues.
