Description of the work
Description of the work
The theme that seems to emerge from the painting is that of duality. These two female figures, which can also be interpreted as a single figure mirroring themselves, represent precisely this aspect of the double. Throughout the history of art, as well as in philosophy and literature, the theme has influenced the thinking of numerous artists. Usually, this is explored primarily at the figurative level, when it comes to realism and abstraction, but it also engages in the contrast between light and shadow, sacred and profane, creating a dichotomy between reality and fantasy. In this case, the artist's double is connected to a type of personal introspection. From an art historical perspective, numerous artists have approached this theme, but we recall: René Magritte, a member of the Surrealist movement, like his contemporaries, explored the theme in disturbing images, offering a careful look at the nature of identity and reality; or the painter Frida Kahlo, who through her numerous self-portraits reveals the complexity of her soul and her internal struggles. Stylistically, the painter Di Juè surprises us with his abstract-figurative style, with solid colors harmoniously and evenly filling the lines of the drawing. The composition, articulated along different lines, creates a dynamic and rhythmic composition, despite the relatively small size of the work. Interesting, beyond the stylistic dichotomy, is the eclectic color palette, which leaves no room for chiaroscuro depth. The work presented here can be attributed, both in terms of technique and pictorial style, to Roberto di Juè, a painter active in the Milanese area during the 1970s. The artist stands out in the Milanese scene for his generous style of painting, which creates dynamics between colors and physical marks on the canvas.
