Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central theme in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde movements, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
In this work, Dino Migliorini achieves a type of formal synthesis that can be described as Expressionist. The image is reduced to its essentials using a thick line that outlines its contour. However, the artist feels the need to emphasize the volumes and enhance the plastic qualities of this figure with a Cubist-inspired approach. The composition is rather painterly, executed with broad brushstrokes.
Dino Migliorini was a painter originally from Rignano, where he was born in 1907 and passed away in 2005. He trained as an artist in Florence. Having moved to the Tuscan capital in 1924, he became an illustrator for the Nuovo Giornale newspaper and associated with Ardengo Soffici and Ottone Rosai. His first solo exhibition was also held in Florence. In the 1950s, his fame spread beyond the region and throughout Italy, with over 100 exhibitions, consistently acclaimed by critics and the public.
