Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.
The subject of still life also offers Dino Migliorini a starting point for his exploration of volumes and geometric forms. Objects are stripped of any tangible characterization to be synthesized into pure forms. The expressive means for this operation are familiar: a thick black line and large areas of color. However, the composition is complex, characterized by a pictorial quality charged with existential tension. This is particularly evident in the definition of the background, vibrant with gestural brushstrokes. A certain expressionist quality is given to this work by the strong contrast of colors. Cézanne's contribution is crucial in the structural investigation of the subjects, conducted through the complexity of the brushstrokes.
Dino Migliorini was a painter originally from Rignano, where he was born in 1907. He trained as an artist in Florence. Having moved to the Tuscan capital in 1924, he became an illustrator for the Nuovo Giornale newspaper and frequented the circles of Ardengo Soffici and Ottone Rosai. His first solo exhibition was also held in Florence. In the 1950s, his fame spread beyond the region and throughout Italy, with over 100 exhibitions, consistently acclaimed by critics and the public.
