Description of the work
Description of the work
The urban landscape was already a popular subject in the Middle Ages and the Modern Era, but predominantly in an idealized manner. Scenes of city life became typical themes with a more realistic interpretation starting in the 19th century. It's worth remembering how, immediately following the realist movements of the 19th century, the Impressionists also placed great emphasis on the everyday, on everyday life, with a certain predilection, however, for the frenetic pace of the city, its crowds, traffic, and typically bourgeois settings.
In this work, we see how Duccio Guidelli transforms reality in a geometric and rational sense. The composition becomes a play of balance in the juxtaposition of different shapes and linear rhythms. The same play is repeated with the color, which is generally based on a dull chromaticism. The brushstrokes construct the volumes of the buildings, placing themselves on different planes in a highly complex rendering of space.
The artist Duccio Guidelli looks at phenomenal reality from a very rationalist pictorial perspective, in the sense that he exploits the expressive qualities of color to create a composition of perfect geometric balance.
