Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consisted of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to experiment with naturalistic or photographic reproductions of reality, with contemporary art, the "Still Life" also became a way of interpreting reality. Indeed, as happened, for example, in the Cubist avant-garde or in Giorgio Morandi, the in-depth exploration of objects was aimed at a conceptual representation, taken beyond the mere sensory aspect.

In his pictorial research, artist Edoardo De Lucia always maintains an approach faithful to sensory data. Thus, we can see how the interpretation of this still life is exquisitely classical and traditional, with a determined desire to transfer reality, with all its connotations, to the painted surface. Thanks also to Edoardo De Lucia's excellent technique, every detail of the subject is meticulously reproduced. Drawing, therefore, is a fundamental element in creating the objects' structure, which thus acquire a striking plastic concreteness. Then, with the pictorial layering, the artist completes his grand realist feat, successfully attempting to reproduce all the effects of light on the surfaces, in a truly Flemish style in the recording of sensory data. Finally, with great consistency, the entire palette is blended using opaque colors that ensure unity across the entire painted surface.
Edoardo De Lucia was born in Milan in 1938. He trained in figurative painting with the master Giulio Vito Musitelli. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and recognitions and has participated in solo and group exhibitions in various Italian cities. His works are held in private collections in Italy, England, Switzerland, and are permanently exhibited at the Modigliani Gallery in Milan.
