Description of the work
Description of the work
The painting can be defined as a genre scene, that is, the depiction of an episode of everyday life that, apparently, lacks any significant element. These types of domestic subjects were long considered minor and only began to spread in Western art starting in the 17th century. Only with the development of 19th-century realism did everyday subjects become considered as important as historical or religious ones.
The style of painter Edoardo De Lucia can be described as a cross between naïve and metaphysical. His subjects are always popular, which leads to a marked simplification of reality that draws him closer to naïve poetics. This simplification, however, is rigorous, rationalist in spirit, which has the effect of transcending reality into an almost surreal dimension. In the composition, built on rigorous lines, the color is spread in compact areas of vibrant, brilliant hues.
Edoardo De Lucia was born in Milan in 1938. He trained in figurative painting with the master Giulio Vito Musitelli. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and recognitions and has participated in solo and group exhibitions in various Italian cities. His works are held in private collections in Italy, England, Switzerland, and are permanently exhibited at the Modigliani Gallery in Milan.
