Description of the work
Description of the work
The landscape has always been a protagonist in artistic research, both as
setting, as a background, but also as the subject itself.
naturalistic description of the landscape was one of the major aspirations
for artists of every era. Each historical period has given its own
interpretation of the landscape contributing to the evolution of its
description: first with a research on space, through perspective
Brunelleschi's in the early Renaissance; then on the atmospheric rendering in the
Sixteenth century; up to the representation of every single vibration
of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this drawing Eduardo Maria Vardaro uses an even more synthesis
accentuated phenomenal reality compared to easel production.
landscape is exalted in its plastic values. But all this is achieved
with a thin, darting, calligraphic line. The painter also uses hatching
excited to further emphasize the play of shadows.
Eduardo Maria Vardaro (Naples, 1912 – Cava de' Tirreni, 1977) Graduated in
painting and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in his city. During the
World War II he worked as an illustrator of the front page of «La

as artistic director at the «Arti Grafiche Di Mauro» in Cava dei Tirreni (where
(he had moved in 1923) and works as a publicist for the «Flotta Lauro» of
Naples. Portraitist par excellence, the exuberant passion that can
found in the first works transforms with maturity into a delicate feeling
impressionist.
