Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.

For artist Egidio Duina, depicting landscape means achieving, through painting, a delicate fusion between naturalistic rendering and poetry. Indeed, his views, in which he employs a frankly synthetic language, transfigure reality into a lyrical interpretation that almost transports it into a dreamlike dimension. Formally, this translates into a highly delicate pictorial style, where the representation of reality occurs in a rarefied manner. This means that the capture of realistic details and particulars is lost in favor of a more expressionistic and symbolic language. Egidio Duina's refined pictorial touch, which delicately synthesizes objects, plays a key role in this process. Thus, the color palette is also distinguished by a delicate anti-naturalistic tendency, whereby the immersion in white and the exaltation of violets expresses the artist's poetic sensibility and his almost dreamlike interpretation of the landscape.
Egidio Duina was a Brescian painter, born in 1940 and passed away in 2021. He demonstrated his talents as a draftsman from an early age, and at fifteen, he apprenticed with a master glassmaker. He later devoted himself to restoration, gilding, sculpture, and other techniques, interests that confirm his versatility. He attended the Art School of the Brescian Artists Association for five years. He exhibited his works, both figurative and abstract, in solo and group exhibitions since 1966, garnering widespread critical and public acclaim. His latest exhibition was the online exhibition Greetings from Brescia, a tribute to his hometown featuring five works.
