Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by World War II left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge led to a complete rejection of any visual language, resulting in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.
In this work, the artist LRE creates a complete gestural and material operation that falls squarely within an informal aesthetic. Here, the artist's sensibility is fully transferred to the gesture and from there to the material, which, on the canvas, is left free to expand, even into the third dimension, giving life to the composition. The aesthetic impact is truly evocative. In this work, LRE seems to want us to glimpse another dimension, onto which the artist has opened a window. Thus, a yellow nebula seems to move and take shape in the infinite and silent space of the universe, fueled by the unstoppable vigor of the pictorial material.
LRE was born in 1934. Her mother died at birth and she grew up in a boarding school. She married in Rome and raised four children. In 1983, she began her self-taught art journey. She expressed herself in an original way using a variety of techniques. "I paint my dreams," she loved to repeat, giving us images that open up new horizons. She participated in several group exhibitions in Rome, and in 2009, the Circolo Gardena in Ortisei (Bolzano) organized a solo exhibition for her entitled "Infinito." The embodiment of enthusiasm, a tireless artist, and the author of unpublished books, she passed away in 2019, bringing us beauty through her works and the example of her life.
