Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
This lithograph is a perfect example of Elio Pelizzatti's landscape style. The view is rendered with impeccable naturalistic rendering, thanks to an excellent technique based on extremely thin and light lines. In this way, the artist perfectly captures every detail while maintaining a lightness of touch that creates a humid, airy atmosphere, typical of the countryside. Another significant element of Elio Pelizzatti's poetics is his rigorous composition, which leads him to schematize the landscape according to clear, precise lines that overlap the dimensional planes.
Elio Pelizzatti was born in Sondrio in 1942. He began painting in the 1960s, and from 1961 to 1964 he lived in Paris. After returning to Valtellina, he frequented the Milanese art scene, creating restless views of urban suburbs with strong existential symbolism. In recent years, Elio Pelizzatti's work has reconnected with the Valtellina landscape, adopting a more lyrical and calm naturalism.
