Elvio Mainardi - In the courtyard

An outdoor courtyard is depicted, with laundry hanging out to dry and a workbench with tools and objects. Elvio Mainardi usually paints landscapes and urban corners, focusing on detail in an attempt to depict everyday life in its simplicity. Here too, he shows us a humble and familiar world, with tools placed on the wooden bench, broken shutters, and laundry hung along the walls.  The style is realistic and authentic. A strong focus on light and shadow, as if to recreate an atmosphere of everyday life and calm. The colors used are warm, with ochre tones, and the brushstrokes are bold yet soft. The work is part of an early production, even more attentive to realistic detail, a style the artist complements with a more varied and vibrant palette, influenced by Cubism. Elvio Mainardi was born in Adria (Rovigo) in 1934. He began exhibiting his work at a very young age in 1952, and was immediately appreciated by the local community and critics. His works have been exhibited internationally and are held in private collections. He was dubbed the "painter of light" for his mastery of color and the interplay of light. Mainardi died in 2022 at the age of 87.
