Description of the work
Description of the work
The work draws on an Informal aesthetic language. The devastation wrought by the Second World War left a profound mark on Western civilization, which in the visual arts also resulted in an inability to communicate. For some artists, this challenge resulted in a total rejection of any visual language, which resulted in the birth of Informal Art. The various Informal movements are certainly connected to American Abstract Expressionism, especially with regard to the gestural component, but they go further in their rejection of any figurative element, even geometric. Their research focuses instead on the material from which their works are composed.
Painter Elvira Leiten uses a unique technique, employing the index and middle fingers of her right hand instead of paintbrushes. This allows her to engage in a highly gestural and instinctive style, closely related to Art Informel and American Abstract Expressionism. The central focus of Elvira Leiten's work is color, which is laid out in various layers on the canvas. The overlapping layers of color create the harmony and balance of colors that characterize Elvira Leiten's work. Harmony and balance move from the formal to the conceptual and spiritual, in the expressive intent of the painter's canvases.
Elvira Leiten is a Norwegian painter born in 1945. She is a self-taught artist and follows an artistic path. She has been painting since 1991 and has participated in several exhibitions in Italy and Norway, always with great critical and public acclaim. Several of her works are held in private collections in Norway, Sweden, Germany, South Africa, the United States, and Canada.
