Emilio Navarino - The Empire of the River

The subject of the work is taken from the famous "Nile Mosaic," a masterpiece of mosaic art from the Hellenistic period discovered between the 16th and 17th centuries in Palestrina and preserved in the Archaeological Museum of the same city. According to various interpretations, the mosaic represents Egypt, identified by the great river that flows through it, exotic animals, and temples.

Even in attempting this masterful reproduction, Emilio Navarino demonstrates his pictorial technical prowess. One can see the artist's precision in transferring every tiny detail of the original mosaic onto his canvas using a completely different technique, oil on canvas.

Emilio Navarino is a painter originally from Grottaglie, in the province of Taranto, where he was born in 1958, but currently works in Bologna. He demonstrates a solid artistic background: he possesses a remarkable technique that allows him to achieve precision and objectivity in the naturalistic rendering of his subjects. At the same time, however, through a personal interpretation of the pictorial layering, he manages to imbue his works with a suffused poetics, in what can be described as a figurative style with an expressionistic edge.
