Description of the work
Description of the work
The work is an abstract composition. "Abstract" derives from the Latin term "abstrahere," which means to extract or draw out. The process of abstraction, in fact, consists of eliminating the particular and individual aspects of an object to derive a universal concept. From Kandinsky to Mondrian, from Pollock to Mirò, many painters have pushed the process of abstraction to the limit in their works, paradoxically creating pure forms and pure colors that do not exist in nature, or translating their emotions and instincts into images.
The composition illustrates the explorations of color and perception that have characterized Ennio Finzi's entire artistic career. Finzi's abstract art draws on Kinetic Art and Op Art, drawing on their geometric and serial nature, but eschewing mechanical or electronic means. Finzi, in fact, prefers that the perceptual stimulation elicited by the repetition of shapes and colors be achieved through the medium of painting, which can be directly controlled by the artist, making the composition more expressive.
Ennio Finzi is a painter born in Venice in 1931. His artistic career began thanks to his closeness to Tancredi Parmeggiani, who initially introduced him to the Spatialist movement. From the 1950s onwards, he began to develop a highly personal exploration of the relationship between music (particularly jazz) and images and the perceptual processes of the human eye. Rejecting the influence of technological or electronic means, he thus arrived at an analytical non-painting style that made him one of the masters of Abstract Expressionism.
