Description of the work
Description of the work
Enrico Colombotto Rosso (Turin, 1925 – 2013) was a leading artist on the Italian painting scene in the second half of the twentieth century. Active since the early 1950s, he exhibited in prestigious international venues such as the Galérie de l'Odéon in Paris, the Providence Museum of Art, the Rome Quadriennale, and Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. His painting is characterized by a strong visionary sense, manifested in his depictions of sumptuous and dramatic female figures. The artist draws on a disturbing and surreal imagery, often inspired by the hidden reality of his city, Turin, and in particular by the atmospheres of pain and segregation of the Cottolengo Hospital in Turin. In addition to painting, Colombotto Rosso also worked in the field of theater design, collaborating with the Teatro Stabile di Torino on works such as Strindberg's "Dance of Death" and Wilde's "Salome." His artistic production, strongly influenced by decadentism and visionary expressionism, stands out for its ability to translate the anguish of contemporary man into powerful and evocative images.
