Description of the work
Description of the work
The subject of the equestrian monument, or the man on horseback, has very ancient origins. It dates back to the classical world, the earliest example of which is the "Rampin Knight," and it had a fundamental political importance for Roman art. Generally, these are sculptures in the round, but there are also cases where this subject appears on painted supports. The theme of the man on horseback has pervaded the entire history of art, not only Western art, and has become a subject of research for contemporary artists such as Marino Marini, Arturo Martini, and Aligi Sassu.
Enrico Corazzi is a master of color who has dedicated much of his painting to equestrian subjects. His painting is impeccable in depicting objects with acute realism, always attentive to detail and intriguing, contextualizing details. All this, however, is interpreted with a dynamic approach that relies on the expressive potential of color. In this way, Corazzi can better convey the idea of movement while simultaneously capturing the vibrations of light on the objects.
Enrico Corazzi was a Livorno-born artist born in 1887 and died in 1952. He devoted much of his work to equestrian subjects. He distinguished himself for his refined pictorial technique, which successfully combined realistic depiction with dynamic pictorialism.
