Description of the work
Description of the work
The "Still Life" genre emerged in the early 17th century. It consists of compositions of inanimate subjects, most often flowers or fruit. While initially it was an opportunity for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art the "Still Life" also becomes a way of interpreting reality, as it did for the Cubists or Giorgio Morandi.
As we can see from this beautiful example, Enrico Felisari's depiction of objects focuses on a simple, concrete style of painting. The fruits appear exalted in their volume, almost geometrically forming a harmonious composition. The objects are distributed in small groups according to a calculated system of balance. The brushstrokes are always rapid and cursive, lending the subject a fresh, immediate feel.
Enrico Felisari (1897-1981), a native of Castelleone, was self-taught and devoted himself primarily to landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes. His technique is essentially figurative but is influenced by a post-impressionist language that fills his subjects with luminous and atmospheric vibrations, so much so that they completely merge with the space in which they interact.
