Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The first fundamental element that emerges from an analysis of Enrico Girardi's paintings is the rationality of the composition. Although the painter measures the space in perfect perspective, applying a rapid, cursive technique with remarkable skill, the landscape is nevertheless framed within a clear convergence of orthogonal lines. The objects are arranged on this convergence in an almost entirely symmetrical fashion, creating a perfect harmony of elements. Formally, the artist pursues an impeccable naturalistic rendering, based on a highly defined drawing structure. The objects' volumes are plastically highlighted, and every detail is rendered with extreme precision. Regarding the atmosphere, the entire scene is characterized by a suggestive, clear light.
As we can see from this painting, Enrico Girardi, the artist behind this work, is a highly skilled painter. His paintings display a perfect naturalistic rendering, combined with a highly lyrical sense of landscape.
