Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
The engraving was created in a perfect graphic style. The expressive medium is represented by a very fine and rapid hatching, which ensures immediacy of execution while also allowing the artist to depict the landscape with great detail. Compositionally, we can appreciate how the artist chose a high-angle shot with a very low angle: this way, the view extends across almost the entire surface of the work.
Enrico Piras is a Sardinian artist born in 1931. He studied under Carmelo Floris, inspiring him with his monochromatic experiments. In 1949, he moved to Sassari, where he currently lives and works, and where he frequented Stanis Dessy's studio. He became a skilled printmaker, mastering etching and woodcut techniques. He also curated exhibitions and art catalogs.
