Description of the work
Description of the work
Animal depictions in art have ancient origins, even appearing in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era.
The artist behind this work's work is driven by a highly classical and traditional taste. This makes his style objective and highly didactic. The approach to his works is figurative, and the painter demonstrates his skill in achieving a perfect realistic rendering in a richly detailed representation. Nevertheless, Bellini does not shy away from using a dynamic touch to ensure greater liveliness and freshness in his execution.
Enzo Bellini, Santa Sofia 1932 - 2015. A self-taught engraver and painter, he has been practicing printmaking since 1969, favoring the etching technique. His works, which to date number approximately one hundred, generally depict still lifes with animals, landscapes, and fantastic figures. Printed at the Di Stefano Printing Works in Pergine Valsugana (TN). He was invited to the 1st Carmelo Floris Italian Engraving Biennial (Purchase Award), Olzai (SS) 2012/2013.
