Description of the work
Description of the work
The iconography of the four seasons, and more generally of the months, has medieval origins. Particularly in the art of the Early Middle Ages and the Romanesque period, the representation of the months and seasons through human labor and activity was developed. These types of representations were generally sculpted on the bas-reliefs of church portals.
In these etchings, Eric Hebborn employs a very cursive style, with figures rendered in a cursory and rapid manner, yet still highly distinctive. The artist uses rapid hatching, making the scenes more lively and dynamic. These compositions, created with a sketchy flair, are rich in detail and intriguing detail.
Eric Hebborn was an artist born in South Kensington, England, in 1936 and died under mysterious circumstances in Rome in 1997. He was best known for his activities as a forger, which he revealed in a book published in 1924.
