Description of the work
Description of the work
The scene depicts a woman with a child in her arms, depicted with essential, almost sketchy features, in a graphic art drawing. The woman's face is the most clearly defined element, while the rest of the figure appears outlined with thin, light lines, suggesting rather than describing the details. This formal simplicity gives way to intense expressiveness, where the maternal relationship emerges delicately.
The work features thin, precise lines, delineating the figures in a simple, concise manner. The simplicity of the strokes creates a clean, refined image, where the focus is on expressiveness rather than detail. This approach makes the image elegant and delicate, capable of conveying emotion with just a few strokes.
Ernesto Treccani (Milan 1920–2009) was a prominent 20th-century Italian artist and intellectual, son of the founder of the Treccani Institute. Active from a young age in the anti-fascist and avant-garde art world, he explored various social and human themes throughout his career, ranging from scenes of rural and urban life to existential and visionary reflections. His artistic language evolved over time, experimenting with techniques such as acrylic and a strong formal synthesis in his figures, often depicted with rapid, informal strokes.
