Description of the work
Description of the work
Treccani's work appears to depict a stylized bouquet of flowers. A few traces of green emerge from the neutral white background, suggesting the presence of stems, while the warm hues of orange and red, applied in a fluid and unrealistic manner, recall petals.
It is characterized by a free and gestural style, with passages where the line is thin and precise alternating with others that are more full-bodied and grainy. The colors, applied with a painterly effect, recall watercolor in their lightness and transparency, giving the composition a spontaneous tone. Despite being a graphic art, the language retains the expressiveness typical of painting.
Ernesto Treccani (Milan, 1920–2009) was an Italian painter and intellectual, committed to both art and society. Son of the founder of the Treccani Institute, he founded the magazine Corrente (1938) at a very young age, becoming a prominent cultural promoter. After the Resistance, he developed a lyrical realism inspired by urban landscapes and Southern Italy. He exhibited in Italy and abroad and founded the Corrente Foundation in 1978. His painting, in dialogue with poetry, expressed a profound love for humanity and reality. He actively participated in cultural and political life, also designing the banners for the Palio di Siena (1977) and Asti (1986). His poetics combined feeling, words, and color in a humanistic and participatory vision of art.
