Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has always been an artist's aspiration. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance, then with atmospheric rendering in the 16th century, up until the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Eugenio Ricci's style relies heavily on color and painterly application. His brushstrokes are rapid and cursive, delineating the landscape with great freshness and immediacy. Through rapid hatching, the painter fills the scene with luminous and atmospheric vibrations, creating an immediate impression of the view.
Eugenio Ricci was born in Varese in 1944. His father, Antonio, was a well-known local painter. He trained at the Art School directed by Lia Azzoni, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. He began exhibiting his work in 1965, consistently achieving critical and public acclaim.
