Eva Hodinova - Fossils

In this work, the painter draws on an archaic and prehistoric world. This historical testimony is ever-present in Eva Hodinova's works. In the various art forms she adopts, the painter revisits the meaning of our past in a contemporary key. The fossils arranged within a circle on the canvas seem to be the story of something that once was, and which can only be told through art. Stylistically, the work is part of a context that leans toward informal art, while also drawing on contemporary techniques that apply objects in the round to the painted surface. The material in Eva Hodinova's work engages with fossils applied to the canvas, to which threads are added that spill over from the circle created by the artist herself. To further emphasize this material aspect, the painter creates layers of paint in varying hues, from blue to purple to gold, as if to emphasize the fossils' symbolic significance. Born in Prague, Eva Hodinova moved to Italy in 1968. She graduated from Pragoděv High School in Prague in 1964, subsequently attending František Emler's studio in Prague and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. In addition to her artistic education, she has attended numerous courses, including engraving, restoration, mural fresco, and Raku ceramics. She has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in numerous international art competitions. She also managed the Angerese Cultural Center and the Galleria Studio d'Arte Liberty in Angera from 1980 to 2016. She is a member of Atelier Capricorno in Cocquio Trevisago, the Association of Free Artists of the Province of Varese, and the Association of Ceramics Artists SVUK-Praga Czech Republic. Her drawings and prints have been included in the Sgarbi Collection, in addition to her works published in the art book "Gli artisti nella Collezione Sgarbi." He is a member of the Museo della Permanente in Milan.
