Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In all of Ezio Farinelli's landscape works, we see how the painter's language expresses itself in a perfect synthesis between naturalistic rendering and coloristic synthesis. Indeed, the view is depicted by the artist with vivacity and a sense of plasticity. The surface is shaded in light, making it appear alive and vibrant. At the same time, however, Farinelli achieves a marked formal synthesis: the forms are almost diluted in delicate washes of color that envelop the figures in concentric and circular movements. In this way, the depiction of the landscape, while faithful to phenomenal reality, is cloaked in a subtly Symbolist guise. In this particular work, the subject's envelopment in color occurs through dynamic lines inspired by Futurist movements.
Ezio Farinelli was born in 1937. He began his painting career in Rome in the 1960s. Initially, his artistic language drew on Impressionism and then the Expressionist avant-garde. Then, in the 1970s and 1980s, he moved decisively toward a more classical style drawing on the Renaissance tradition. This painter's most recurring themes are the Roman suburbs, female figures set in abstract, dreamy landscapes, and Don Quixote. Ezio Farinelli has been featured in important group exhibitions alongside Brindisi, Guttuso, Annigoni, Maccari, Levi, De Chirico, Sironi, Boccioni, Cagli, Campigli, Sassu, and others.
