Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. Fabio Grassi was born in Massa in 1956 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara in 1978. Today he lives and works in his hometown, but the typical Tuscan landscape of the region's hilltop town is in his heart and soul. Many might call it a "postcard" landscape, but in Grassi's work, it holds a powerful symbolic meaning. Indeed, Fabio Grassi's work is an entire metaphor. The landscape, and consequently the tree he depicts almost obsessively, represents life.
