Description of the work
Description of the work
Felice Ludovisi's work features a horse's head, or that of a similar animal, in the foreground, rendered in light, delicate tones, such as pale gray. In the background, the barely visible outline of another animal blends in with the vibrant atmosphere of the painting.
The intense background, with vibrant colors like red, blue, and yellow, is characterized by quick, instinctive brushstrokes. The work doesn't focus on realistic details, but rather emphasizes the energy of the color, the rapidity of the painterly gesture, and the overall expressive force.
Felice Ludovisi (Viterbo, 1917) studied art and architecture in Rome. From 1945 onwards, he exhibited in Italy and abroad, including works at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London in 1948. His figurative style with abstract influences is distinguished by his emotional use of color and light. In 1985, he received the honor of Knight Grand Cross. Among his major works are The City of the Sun and the Genesis cycle, which reflect his ongoing exploration of form, gesture, and color.
