Description of the work
Description of the work
The human figure has always been at the center of artistic research. Since the classical age, the naturalistic rendering of human anatomy has been a primary goal of painters and sculptors throughout history. The representation of the nude is the ultimate expression of this aspiration, pervasive across all eras and stylistic trends. Indeed, in addition to the naturalistic interpretations of the Renaissance and various classicisms, which aimed for a truthful and detailed representation of the human body, the nude has also been a central figure in the new aesthetic concepts brought about by the historical avant-garde, such as Cubism, Expressionism, and Surrealism.
In this lithograph, painter Fernando Brunetti once again displays all his technical prowess, achieving a completely naturalistic and technically perfect rendering. The model's anatomy is depicted in minute detail, but it is above all these details that determine the great truthfulness and naturalness of this body: the softness of the skin, which almost seems to suggest the tactile effect of the skin; the flowing, soft mass of hair; the balance of light that illuminates the model's body, enhancing its plastic qualities. Furthermore, Brunetti's remarkable way of emphasizing the interactions between the body and the space with dense hatching, which gives the work great mobility and vivacity, is remarkable.
Artist Fernando Brunetti was born in Gossolengo in 1917. Having moved to Tuscany as a child, he trained in Lucca, where he studied under the master Marracci. Throughout his career, Fernando Brunetti specialized in the depiction of the female nude. Through this subject, Brunetti developed his highly classical figurative language, which emphasizes a completely naturalistic rendering of the subjects and the exaltation of plasticity.
