Description of the work
Description of the work
This work is typical of photographer/painter Filippo Di Mario's oeuvre, titled "Passione Rossa." At the turn of the millennium, Di Mario, for his love of photography and the Ferrari driven by Michael Schumacher, began regularly following Formula 1. The idea arose to create a unique work, outside of journalistic reporting, focused exclusively on the emotional narrative elicited by the driver and the sporting event. Thus began a relentless pursuit of distinctive, intense, and creative images, with strong chromatic tones. Driven by passion, Di Mario combines photography and painting to further enhance the sense of movement, the vividness of the colors, and the expressiveness of his works. Through the union of two different media, "Passione Rossa" has, over the years, narrated the compelling and extraordinary story of Michael Schumacher's victories, using a new and utterly artistic language.
Filippo Di Mario's works are created with a unique technique that combines his work as a photographer with that of a painter. His compositions are based on photographs, which he uses to immortalize evocative moments of car races. These are then printed on canvas and painted as truly unique works of art. This allows Filippo Di Mario to highlight the speed and dynamism of his subjects. The photograph captures a unique and unrepeatable moment in the work, and the pictorial layering, through an expressionistic use of color, enhances its most emotional aspects. Thus, in this work, we see how the speed of the Ferrari is highlighted through a striking composition, which sees a decontextualized black space suddenly cut by the flaming red stripe of the track. The thin, diagonal line conveys a strong dynamic character, also linked to a vibrant painterly touch, typical of Filippo Di Mario.
Filippo Di Mario was born in Messina in the 1970s and moved to Anzola dell'Emilia in the province of Bologna. His passion for photography began in 1981. He participated in hundreds of national and international photography competitions, winning numerous prestigious awards worldwide. In 1984, the Italian Federation of Photographic Arts (FIAF) awarded him an important international recognition: the title of Artist of the International Federation of Photographic Arts (AFIAP). It was during this time that he met Franco Villani. The renowned sports photographer was struck by his passion for photography, introducing him to the world of motorcycling and Formula One. Di Mario produced several works on landscape and sports photography and exhibited his work in numerous locations throughout Italy. In the late 1990s, he focused exclusively on the world of Formula One, working as a freelance photographer. In 2001, he began an important collaboration with FOM (Formula One Management), which led to the "Passione Rossa" project.
