Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically, in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality. However, this representation often relies on a hyperrealistic formal rendering, precisely to paradoxically accentuate the illusory and ambiguous nature of the surreal. In this work by Filippo Rinallo, too, everything unfolds in a dimension that goes far beyond perceptible reality to explore a parallel world: that of dreams and symbols.
Regarding Filippo Rinallo's style in this work, while aesthetically and conceptually the painting can be traced back to a Surrealist line, its language, however, must be compared to Expressionist modes. Indeed, the synthesis of the subjects is fundamental, stripped of their individual details and reduced to pure form. The reclining figure appears as an elegantly elongated silhouette, expressing strengths and energies that are entirely internal. Even the lunar landscapes are constructed through a marked process of abstraction. The space is two-dimensional, and the forms are constructed from zigzagging and angular lines. The surface of the work is unified by the coherence of brown and gold tones.
Filippo Rinallo was born in Canicattì (Agrigento) on September 11, 1950, and currently lives and works in Turin. He graduated from the Art School of the Albertina Academy in Turin, where he studied under Terzolo, Ramella, Casorati, and Massara. He has participated in numerous national and international art events, achieving critical and public acclaim.
