Description of the work
Description of the work
Animal depictions in art have ancient origins, appearing even in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks containing drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era. Much of Francesco Casorati's pictorial production draws inspiration from the animal world in developing his original abstract language.
Francesco Casorati's artistic language is defined by an abstraction that utilizes both biological and geometric forms in compositions that exhibit a marked dynamism combined with a refined, rational harmony. Everything is played out on a two-dimensional plane, with a subtle, elegant graphic line and balanced chromatic fields. The forms are pure, but Casorati's style is always lively, marked by a vibrant narrative, at times almost pop.
Francesco Casorati, Turin 1934-2013. His father, Felice Casorati, one of the greatest painters of the last century, passed on his passion to his son. A passion that would accompany him throughout his life, until his final moments. Francesco's gift culminated in his first exhibition in Milan in 1954, when he was just twenty years old. His resume also includes 24 years spent teaching at the Accademia Albertina in Turin.
