Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Francesco Colella is a painter deeply connected to the sea, and his subjects are old sailors with weathered faces or seascapes rippling with waves. In both cases, the artist is characterized by a highly expressive language in which a complex, almost gestural application of color imbues the objects with profound existential vibrations. In this work, the vitality of the color conveys the full power of the sea and its waves.
Francesco Colella was born in San Benedetto in 1966. He has been painting since 1998. In 2003, he collaborated with Dario Ballantini on a large canvas. That same year, he won the Josephin Prize in Montefiore dell'Aso. He designed the palio for the Ascoli Piceno Quintana.
