Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism. Francesco De Panis's entire pictorial production focuses on landscape. His most recurring subjects are evocative images of the Tuscan hinterland, small villages at the foot of the mountains, or views of the Ligurian coast.
Francesco De Panis's work is distinguished by landscape painting, in which he seeks distinctive views, imbued with a distinctive lyricism. Hence his penchant for picturesque views and evocative framing. Formally, this translates into an impressionistic, highly animated and dynamic style that ensures freshness and immediacy of execution. His brushstrokes are therefore characterized by a remarkably cursive touch, made up of sudden flickers that effectively capture the vibrations of light on objects. This is particularly evident in the rendering of the grassy lawns, the trees in the background, and the shifting light of the sky. The entire composition is imbued with a calm sentimentality and a freshness deriving from the artist's technical prowess.
Francesco de Panis (Genoa 1949) is a poetic and refined artist whose vivid and masterfully executed oils on panel recount the beauty of the Tuscan countryside. His paintings are extremely realistic yet imbued with impressionist lyricism and magic. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts, he moved to Paris, where he met PM Laurent, heir to the great French Impressionist tradition. He worked with him for two years and was inevitably influenced by him. Upon returning to Italy, he devoted himself to the study of simultaneous contrasts and complementary colors, quickly developing a technique capable of combining precision, fluidity, luminosity, compositional balance, and transparency. Francesco De Panis has been the subject of prestigious solo exhibitions in Italy, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, and Venezuela, and has won prestigious awards. His works are held in important collections in Italy and abroad.
