Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
Artist Francesco Zan stands out for his landscape painting, which seeks distinctive views, imbued with a distinctive lyricism. Hence his penchant for picturesque views and evocative framing. Formally, this translates into a highly animated and dynamic style that ensures freshness and immediacy of execution. His brushstrokes are therefore characterized by a decidedly cursive touch, made of sudden flickers, effectively capturing the vibrations of light on objects. This is particularly evident in the vibrant countryside, rendered with a dense, textured touch. The entire composition is imbued with a calm realism and a freshness deriving from the artist's technical prowess.
Francesco Zan was a Turin artist born in 1915 and died in 1982. He primarily painted landscapes and still lifes, which he executed in a typically impressionistic style, imbued with lyricism and freshness. He participated in numerous exhibitions, and his paintings are also found in museums in Caracas and Bogotá.
