Description of the work
Description of the work
Still life continues to be a significant genre in contemporary art, evolving and reinventing itself through new perspectives and artistic expressions, becoming a means of exploring concepts and symbols. Francesco Tambusso manages to vividly narrate a genre often treated with dark undertones. Francesco Tambusso, in fact, favors a figurative style that tends, despite its simplicity, to evoke a "primitive" pictorial model, almost naive, that pervades the entire panel.
Francesco Tabusso's style tends to simplify the represented object. Outlining the elements with this dark line impacts the visual impact of the graphic, providing a simple and effective way to convey a lively and colorful expressive force. The color has no chiaroscuro tendencies; rather, it is compacted uniformly, making the drawing appear two-dimensional. The resulting rhythm reveals a witty color palette, thanks in part to a particularly lively and sunny palette, reminiscent of a lavishly laid table in our beautiful country during the summer.
Francesco Tabusso was born in Milan in 1930. From an early age, he showed a precocious inclination for drawing and painting. He was a student of Felice Casorati, from whom he learned the ability to transfigure reality, to convey its enchanted, timeless dimension, in a sort of "magical realism." His painting is recognized worldwide, and he has received numerous awards and commissions, including: in 1975, he created the large apse altarpiece "The Canticle of the Creatures" for the church of San Francesco d'Assisi al Fopponino, designed by Giò Ponti; subsequently, for the same church, he created eight large triptychs dedicated to the "Little Flowers" of Saint Francis. He has participated in important exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale. In 1983, he became an Academician of San Luca. The major retrospective exhibition of 2007, organized by the Permanente in Turin, received great public and critical acclaim.
