Description of the work
Description of the work
Surrealist aesthetics emerged around the 1920s and encompassed all fields of artistic research. Specifically, in the visual arts, Surrealism sought to explore the human subconscious and translate it into artwork through a mechanical writing process based on dream analysis. Consequently, Surrealist artworks propose the representation of a dreamlike dimension, completely dissociated from reality. Much of Franco Anselmi's pictorial production can be associated with Surrealist influences, in the creation of a magical dimension.
Franco Anselmi's Surrealism stands out from the historic Surrealism of masters Dalí and Magritte by adopting a highly original approach of its own. Indeed, the world Anselmi creates is not so much the product of dreams as of fantasy. His works are filled with a fairytale dimension of medieval villages made of lopsided buildings that defy the laws of gravity, inhabited by fantastical animals with caricature-like features. Consequently, the form adopted by this painter also fits the fairytale atmosphere of his entire aesthetic. Anselmi's style is extremely drawn, with line playing a key role in bringing the artist's fantastical creations to life. The work is completed by a vibrant palette of brilliant colors in highly elaborate application.
Franco Anselmi was born in Vittorio Veneto in 1950. He graduated as an electrical engineer and holds a degree in languages and sociology, but his passion for art drove him to teach himself painting techniques from a young age. He taught until 1994, but given the success of his exhibitions, he decided to dedicate himself to painting fully. Among the many exhibitions he has participated in, both in Italy and abroad, are those in 1991 and 1993 at the "Casa dei Carraresi" in Treviso, at the Pio Castle in Carpi, at the Bahia Casino in Cadiz, at the Bevilaqua la Masa in Venice, at the "Buda Center" in Budapest in 1994, and at the "Artest" in Udine. In the 90s-95s he was seen in Turkey at the Sanat Fuari in Istanbul, Bursa, Ankara and Izmir, the "Sandrelle" Gallery in Lyon, "Europ'art" Geneva, "Art Americas" Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and at the "Jachob Javits Centre" in New York.
