Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers as a subject in themselves began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the floral world as an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers began to appear not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers also becomes a way of interpreting reality.
Franco Benassi's style, both in landscapes and still lifes, presents a perfect fusion of realism and a delicate, impressionistic rendering of sensory details. On the one hand, the artist precisely describes the view in all its details, with a strong sense of rural life and the everyday life of simple life. On the other, his refined painting technique allows him to convey a sense of immediacy to the canvas, thanks to rapid brushstrokes charged with atmospheric vibrations. Light thus reflects on objects, but without interfering with the precise depiction of reality. Franco Benassi's entire interpretation of reality is therefore characterized by a clear luminosity that is revealed, by contrast, in the play of shadows. The use of a palette of soft, delicate colors also serves this purpose.
Franco Benassi was born in Trento on April 25, 1935. He attended art school in his hometown at the Artigianelli Institute, where he was taken in after a Carabiniere, who had found him an orphan and homeless, took his plight to heart two years after the loss of his entire family in the terrible bombings the city suffered, bearing the indelible marks of that event himself. In 1978, he began entering his first competitions, attending academies, and attending his first exhibitions, immediately receiving widespread acclaim from the art world. This quickly led to international success and recognition, leading him to join the SINTESI group in Milan, of which he was an active member. His solo exhibitions have always been a success throughout Europe, and some of his works are held in numerous museums.
