Description of the work
Description of the work
The learned Cujacio derives the word "Posta" from "Apostolis," that is, from the practice of forwarding "apostolic letters" by the Roman Curia and the Papacy. This term first appears in the Capitularies of Charlemagne, and then in the third book of the laws of the Lombards. The fact remains that the Church has always used messengers, called "cursores," to communicate with every part of the world, from the most remote times to the present day. Specifically, we find the subjects of the stamps: Journey of Saints Cyril and Methodius to Moravia (November 22, 1963), Pilgrimage of His Holiness Paul VI to the Holy Land (January 4, 1964), Coat of Arms of His Holiness Paul VI (October 16, 1963). The stamps are richly decorated, with clear and detailed illustrations. Vatican Postal Philately began at the end of the 15th century. Some ambassadors asked the Pope and obtained permission to receive diplomatic correspondence through their own couriers. This gave rise to the establishment of "National Post Offices" in Rome. The first was established by Spain, with the authorization of Pope Alexander VI in 1499, immediately followed by those in Naples and Milan. Post offices in Rome and Florence were established in 1536 by Paul III.
