Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape has always been a central theme in artistic research, both as a setting, as a backdrop, and as a subject itself. The naturalistic depiction of landscape has been a major aspiration for artists of every era. Each historical period has offered its own interpretation of landscape, contributing to the evolution of its depiction: first with an exploration of space, through Brunelleschi's perspective in the early Renaissance; then with atmospheric rendering in the sixteenth century; and finally with the depiction of every single vibration of light on objects in Impressionism.
In this work, De Lillis demonstrates his post-Impressionist maturity. The composition is entirely constructed through color, and the brushstrokes have a notable structural value. The painter's aim is not to capture the sensory aspect of the landscape, but to capture its very essence, its substance. To this end, the brushstrokes, rich in texture, intervene, which, despite the essentiality of the representation, breaks down the space into different planes, recording the vibrations of light and life on the subject. Thus, within a substantially two-dimensional surface, squashed in the foreground, the objects are constructed by the painter with large, dense brushstrokes. Chromatically, the entire surface of the work is coordinated with a balanced palette of references and correspondences.
The artist G. De Lillis, as we can see from an analysis of this work, stands out for his landscape production that pursues a post-Impressionist approach. His style is characterized by a high degree of synthesis and a use of structural color.
