Description of the work
Description of the work
Animal portraits in art have ancient origins, even appearing in primitive cave paintings. For religious reasons, various types of animals appear in the works of various ancient civilizations. It was especially in the Middle Ages, within the International Gothic style, that animal depictions became widespread as true life portraits, both within works of art and in notebooks of drawings and sketches. The presence of animals as subjects in art remained constant until the contemporary era.
Artist Dea's aim is to offer a simplified interpretation of reality, seeking new values of purity in representation. This is expressed through a fluid technique that resolves the subjects with quick but incisive strokes. This particular technique gives the figures an intangible consistency, almost as if they were vaporous and ephemeral apparitions. The use of a black background also contributes to achieving this effect, allowing the chromatic nuances to stand out more, thus accentuating the fusion between the subject and the space in which they interact.
The artist G. Dea has developed his own particular form of Expressionism in which the figures are created through rapid and effective marks of colour on a black background.
