Description of the work
Description of the work
Flowers, or plants in general, as independent subjects, began to appear in still lifes, a genre that emerged in the early 17th century. Subsequently, painters, especially the Impressionists, increasingly focused on the world of flowers and plants, as they offered an extraordinary opportunity to capture vibrant colors and light. Thus, flowers and plants were depicted not only in vases, but also immersed in their natural landscape. While initially a pretext for painters to attempt a photographic reproduction of reality, with contemporary art, the subject of flowers and plants also became a way of interpreting reality.
Artist G. Vitali's aim is to offer a simplified interpretation of reality, seeking new values of purity in representation. For this reason, his pictorial approach is expressed through a highly classical and traditional artistic process. His language, in fact, is essentially figurative and finds its broadest expression in the traditional genres of landscape and still life. However, the artist manages to infuse his originality and personal touch even within tradition, precisely through his pursuit of purity of representation that defines his style. Concretely, this is expressed through a fluid technique that seamlessly blends subjects into space while simultaneously enhancing their plastic qualities. From a chromatic perspective, too, the artist favors decidedly pale, luminous tones.
Both in his choice of subjects and his execution method, we can say that the artist G. Vitali moves within the realm of classical and figurative production, while also displaying a certain personal approach in composing his works. His desire to seek lightness and simplicity in representation is evident, with the aim of imbuing the artwork with primordial values of purity and innocence.
