Description of the work
Description of the work
Landscape is realized through a horizontal and layered composition. The drawing reveals itself as simple and natural. Landscape has played a significant role within the artistic context, where the representation of nature with its human influences emerges. Since antiquity, landscape has been used as a backdrop for mythological or historical scenes, as well as for religious scenes during the Renaissance. Gradually, over the centuries, landscape became a central theme for expressing inner emotions. As a pictorial genre, landscape painting developed in the 18th century, focusing on a detailed and precise representation of urban and natural landscapes.
Gaetano Bocchetti's landscape painting is based on a pictorial layering of the landscape, with vivid, two-dimensional colors. His painting blends seamlessly with a clear, vivid representation. This lack of spatial depth is compensated for by the volume of his brushstrokes, which construct the objects by arranging them on different planes. Bocchetti's brushwork imbues his subjects with intense existential vibrations. In this way, his artistic practice manages to go beyond phenomenal reality to delve deeply into the true essence of things.
Gaetano Bocchetti was born in Milan in 1888. He was a Neapolitan painter who became interested in art at an early age, enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. He became involved with the artists of the Neapolitan Secession and, a few years later, with the Novecento group. He participated in numerous exhibitions both abroad and nationally. In 1920 he participated in the Venice Biennale, in 1921 in the Rome Quadrennial, and in 1923 and subsequent years, in the Naples National Biennial. In Italy, he also painted frescoes in several churches. Several of his works are held in public and private collections. He died in Naples in 1990.
