Description of the work
Description of the work
The subject matter is extremely bucolic. Landscape painting is important not only for its ability to depict nature, but also for its function of reflecting the artist's moods, feelings, and perceptions. This genre continues to evolve in the contemporary world, but its relevance and appeal for artists and observers alike are growing.
Gaetano Bocchetti's style, in this case too, bases his painting on a high level of pictorialism, going beyond the naturalistic rendering of objects, highlighting their representation in their essence. The composition appears on a substantially two-dimensional plane, with little perspective. This lack of spatial depth is compensated for by the volume of the brushstrokes, which construct the objects by arranging themselves on different planes. Bocchetti's brushwork imbues the subjects he depicts with intense existential vibrations. In this way, his artistic practice manages to go beyond phenomenal reality to delve deeply into the true essence of things.
Gaetano Bocchetti was born in Milan in 1888. He was a Neapolitan painter who became interested in art at an early age, enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. He became acquainted with the artists of the Neapolitan Secession and then, for a few years, came into contact with the Novecento group. He exhibited in numerous shows both abroad and nationally. In 1920, he participated in the Venice Biennale, in 1921 in the Rome Quadrennial, and in 1923 and subsequent years, in the Naples National Biennial. In Italy, he also frescoed several churches. Several of his works are held in public and private collections. He died in Naples in 1990.
