Description of the work
Description of the work
The landscape painting exhibited by painter Gaetano Bocchetti finds its representation in a moment of everyday life. The beach is described not only through the naturalistic element of the sand and the sea, but is also populated by numerous bathers. This type of landscape aims to highlight the genre's transformation within contemporary vision, prioritizing not only the ability to evoke the beauty of the places and document urban transformation, but also the painting itself.
Gaetano Bocchetti's versatile painting style is revealed in this canvas, where his highly pictorial style aims to represent the essence of painting. This is emphasized by a volumetric painting style with vibrant brushstrokes and vivid colors. There is no spatial depth, but each subject creates its own volume through brushstrokes, arranging itself on different planes. Bocchetti's pictorial approach imbues the subjects he depicts with intense existential vibrations. In this way, his artistic practice manages to go beyond phenomenal reality to delve deeply into the true essence of things.
Gaetano Bocchetti was born in Milan in 1888. He was a Neapolitan painter who became interested in art at an early age, enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. He became close to the artists of the Neapolitan Secession and later became close to the Novecento group. He exhibited in numerous shows both abroad and nationally. In 1920 he participated in the Venice Biennale, in 1921 in the Rome Quadrennial, and in 1923 and subsequent years, in the Naples National Biennale. In Italy, he also frescoed several churches. His works are held in public and private collections. He died in Naples in 1990.
