Gaia Cassini - Purity

Gaia Cassini is an artist who lives and works in Bergamo. Self-taught, she has developed a personal pictorial language that can be identified as a sort of naive, expressionist, and abstract style. Cassini focuses on the simplification of reality, which is largely distilled into essential objects. Forms become symbolic, suspended at the center of the paintings. The reduction, in some cases, is so extreme as to lead to informality. The whole (and hence the expressionist component) is achieved with a gestural technique, almost an action painting, executed with thick, dense brushstrokes. Another salient characteristic is the bold polychromy, composed of vivid colors in juxtapositions that further reinforce the expressionist nature of the works.
